The Board of Trustees holds its meeting through virtual communication technology and commends the university’s measures in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic
The Board of Trustees (BOT) praised all the precautionary measures taken by the University to combat the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), and the efforts made to develop the e-learning system, noting that the university administration is working hard to maintain the progress of the educational process and the safety of students in light of the exceptional circumstances that the Kingdom of Bahrain and the world are going through by providing quality education that improves the skills of the Bahraini citizen, and benefits the country’s progress and development in all areas of life.
This came during the second meeting of the BOT for the academic year 2020/2021, which was held virtually through virtual communication technology, during which the members discussed a set of topics, the most important of which are the health and safety report, the university’s precautionary measures to combat the spread of the Corona virus, matters related to the e-learning system and the results of students’ evaluation in the first semester, in order to ensure the university’s success in dealing with the circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Waheeb Alkhaja began the meeting by congratulating the members of the Board and all the academic and administrative staff of the University on the recent achievement of the university, which is its progress in the QS ranking of Arab universities from the thirty-seventh spot in 2020 to the twenty-ninth spot in 2021, stressing that this progress reinforces the University’s position as one of the best private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially after its appearance among the best 700 universities in the world in the QS ranking of world universities, which constitutes a major addition to the various achievements of the University. The Chairman of the BOT also presented the University’s plan to construct a new campus in Muharraq Governorate, including the plan designs and the expected cost of the project, as the attendees expressed their approval of the project, especially in light of the need for the people of Muharraq Governorate to establish higher education institutions in their governorate.
For his part, the President of the University, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, presented his periodic report on the achievements of the university in the first semester, the most important of which were the students’ academic achievement statistics, which showed improvement in their performance at various levels, in addition to the increase in the number of the staff members who obtained a fellowship from the UK Higher Education Academy, in addition to the progress of the University on the Green Metric World Rankings for green universities, where it achieved 484th rank globally, and for the sixth consecutive year the University won the first place for the educational sector in the Capital Governorate competition for the most beautiful decoration of public and private buildings, and succeeded in passing the external surveillance audit to maintain its international certification in the management of educational institutions ISO 21001:2018.
Additionally, the Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development, Prof. Khaled Gharaibeh gave a detailed presentation on the University’s approach to teaching, learning and assessment electronically and the arrangements and procedures that the university follows in this context in order to ensure the quality of the educational process, as well as a detailed presentation on the university’s scientific output such as the number of research papers, scientific books, and contributions to scientific conferences.
After that, the Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Abdullah Alkhaja, presented the health and safety report, in which he explained the university’s approach in dealing with the circumstances imposed by the Corona pandemic and how it was successful so far thanks to the solidarity of all University staff members, and their commitment to all the precautionary measures, including social distancing, wearing masks and continuous sanitization of hands, in addition to the effective participation in the national vaccination campaign, as a large number of academic and administrative staff members took the initiative to take the anti-virus vaccine.
