The College of Arts and Science organized a series of lectures and workshops presented by a group of experts. The Department of Design and Arts hosted Dr. Albert Fakhouri, President of the International Council for Accreditation in Architecture and Design (CIAAD), to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. He delivered a lecture on the relationship between academic aspects and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, driven by the department’s commitment to raising awareness about pressing global issues and contributing to achieving these goals.

The department also welcomed renowned designer Anna Elia Pantoja from PRECIOSA GROUP, an international company, in an exceptional lecture titled “Inspiration in Innovative Lighting Design Solutions.” The lecture highlighted the radical transformations in the world of lighting design, where lighting has evolved from a functional necessity to a vital element in aesthetic expression, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation. It also covered the latest trends, pioneering techniques in lighting design, and case studies of leading projects worldwide. Additionally, the designer discussed integrating art with functionality in lighting design, creating innovative solutions that harmonize efficiency and beauty.

Furthermore, the department hosted Professor Khalil Al-Qahiri, an expert in the fields of entrepreneurship and advertising, who delivered an engaging lecture attended by a large number of students from the Bachelor in Graphic Design and Bachelor in Interior Design programmes, as well as academic staff. The lecture focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by designers in the world of entrepreneurship, the gap between design and entrepreneurship, and the solutions associated with blending creativity with business and strategies for competing. It also addressed strategic thinking skills, resource management, negotiation and persuasion abilities, understanding the market through knowledge of customer needs, leveraging technology, and the importance of innovative thinking.

Finally, the department hosted Professor Tarek Al-Kindi, an expert in marketing and new media, who delivered an engaging lecture attended by a considerable number of students from both Bachelor in Graphic Design and Bachelor in Interior Design programmes, along with academic members. The lecture focused on “New Media and Integrated Media” and the importance of integrated media in marketing. It explored who the influencers on social media are and their characteristics, what companies require from their employees in the digital age, the key skills needed, and how these factors influence the job market, along with the new opportunities associated with them.
