Applied Science University Celebrates the World Autism Awareness Day “You Are Not Alone”
An awareness ceremony of World Autism Awareness Day titled “You Are Not Alone” been held under the Patronage of His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Shura Council and the International Organization for Child Protection in collaboration with Applied Science University.
The ceremony was opened with a speech delivered by the University President, Prof Ghassan Aouad. In his speech, he welcomed and thanked the Chairman of Shura Council His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, for his patronage, and thanked the Regional Office of the International Organization for Child Protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and all participants, organizations and supporters.
Prof Aouad mentioned that the purpose of this event was to raise awareness of autism among all groups of society and to identify, even in a simple way, the suffering of children or their dependents. He also thanked the Ministry of Education Dr Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, for providing opportunities to integrate autistic children in schools and universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The ceremony included honoring a ceremony for the parents, participants and the supporting parties, followed by a play presented by ASU students, in cooperation with students from East Riffa Boys Secondary School, titled “Do you want me?.”
A video was then displayed named “My Story”, which recounted the story of a child with autism, and how parents and the society should deal with these situations.
The ceremony ended with a marshal sports “taekwondo” show done by the child, Nasser Habeel, then displaying an educational entertainment website for children with autism presented by the student Hajar Al-Manaa.
Social and health centers, and participants from the local community took part in the exhibition that was held during the event. A group of ASU students also participated in the exhibition by presenting artworks related to autism. At the end of the celebration, Professor Ghassan Aouad and Manager of the Regional Office of the International Organization for Child Protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain Mr Salman Al-Subaie, honored all the participating bodies and the voluntary organizational committees, which clearly contributed to the success of the event.
