The university is celebrating the graduation of 17th cohort and the 20th anniversary of its establishment.
Yesterday, the Applied Science University (ASU) celebrated a momentous occasion with its 17th cohort graduation ceremony, held at the prestigious Exhibition World Bahrain, Sakhir. The event not only marked the academic achievements with a batch of more than 400 students, but also commemorated two decades of academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement under the banner of โ20 Years on the Road of Excellence.โ
The ceremony commenced with Bahrainโs National Anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran in the presence of Education Minister, Dr Mohammad Mubarak Juma, ASU board of trustees chairman, Professor Waheeb Ahmed Al Khaja, university president, Professor Hatem Masri, London South Bank University international associate pro vice chancellor, Stuart Bannerman and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Middle East, Africa and South Asia executive director Dr Ashwin Fernandes, alongside other senior officials, notable figures and parents.
Professor Al Khaja, opened the ceremony with heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, stating, “Pride fills all of us at ASU, and today we are bringing together this elite group of graduates.” He emphasised the university’s commitment to preparing students for the workforce, stating, “We have worked to prepare and educate them with sincere and sincere efforts, so that they are qualified to enter the world with the skills they possess.”
He also reflected on ASU’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 2004, emphasising the university’s commitment to accelerate student learning, inspired by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Professor Waheeb further stated that “Since its inception in 2004, the university has been able to achieve distinguished successes and open new and pioneering horizons for our sons and daughters in Bahrain.”
Professor Masri echoed similar sentiments, “The university has continuously sought to take its steps towards excellence and progress, with the result being the great and honourable achievements we have achieved today at the local, regional and international levels.” He encouraged the graduates to be ambassadors for the university, adding, “Always remember that you are ambassadors for the university and its best representative is you as knowledgeable individuals, alongside the values โโand principles that the university has instilled.”
The 17th cohort showcases an accumulated total of more than 7,000 male and female graduates over the past 20 years. โAs the graduates embark on their professional journeys, they do so with the knowledge that they are well-prepared to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, carrying with them the legacy of โ20 Years on the Road of Excellence,โ” said an ASU spokesperson.
The ceremony also featured remarks from distinguished international guests Mr Bannerman, and Dr Ashwin Fernandes, praising ASU’s commitment to global partnerships and academic rigour. โTheir presence highlighted the university’s growing reputation on the international stage and its dedication to producing graduates who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world,โ continued ASU spokesperson.
The ceremony was filled with poignant moments, including heartfelt speeches by graduates, faculty, and distinguished guests. The graduates were reminded of their potential to shape the future, with Professor Al Khaja stating, “You have broadened horizons on the path before you.” They were also encouraged to embrace lifelong learning and to use their education to serve their country and its wise leadership.
